Wanna hinder a future SOPA-like law?
Don’t call your senator. Don’t call your governor. Do I even have to tell you why? Those people don’t give a crap about you. Even if you do manage to speak to an actual human being when calling their office (which is far from certain), you won’t make a difference no matter how angry you sound. And you know what? Not only do these people not care about you, but they don’t care about SOPA or its impact either. All they care about is getting more money for their re-election, and they do that by rewarding their friends and punishing their enemies. Guess what? Now that SOPA is more or less dead, they’re gonna try again, and again, and again until some form of it passes. We defeated it today, big deal! We’re gonna face it again tomorrow. Why? Because their jobs pretty much depend on that. It’s like treating tooth decay with pain killers - when the tooth has become black long ago and needs to be pulled out. The problem isn’t the bill itself, but the people who sponsor it.
These are the companies and groups that openly supported SOPA and PIPA. They are the ones to blame, and they are the ones you should be complaining to, not their puppets in Washington. Want to boycott something? Here are a few suggestions.

Now, I understand boycotting some of these companies/organizations can be very hard. For example, you’d probably need at least 2 hours of research each day to make sure you’re not supporting anything owned by Viacom. However, some of them are boycottable, and all of them have a contact e-mail or phone number. If you want to “do something”, I’m afraid blacking out your website or your Facebook page for a day won’t do shit. When you contact a private business, there’s always the chance that someone, somewhere in there will be competent enough to care about losing you as a customer.
